We want to Pad 200 girls every month in underserved communities in Lagos, and also run a general check up on their menstrual health and hygiene, and also give them other aids for living a good menstrual health and hygiene.Pad Bank Nigeria is a non governmental and non profit organization focused on menstrual health and hygiene, menstrual poverty and sexual reproductive health. Our goal is to see that we eradicate menstrual poverty amongst girls in Nigeria. In achieving this we have a long term goal with a carefully curated sustainable approach that I would be sharing with you below. As part of our approach to achieve our goal, we run medical checks on the girls to prevent, diagnose and treat menstrual related diseases. We also adopted the use of reusable sanitary pads that can last a girl up to 6 months, as this would help us be consistent and sustainable. To this end, we give 5 pieces of reusable sanitary pads with 190g detergent to the girls to enable them maintain the hygiene of the pads and encourage their personal hygiene, as well as providing shaving sticks and other menstrual inputs.
Beyond the above, part of our long term goals include: girls empowerment(training them on how to make their own reusable sanitary pads and be self reliant, and also training mothers to encourage and support a healthy and hygienic menstrual lifestyle in their daughters;acquiring of farm lands to plant cotton to make pads and also indirectly empower farmers;borehole constructions in several underserved communities, as we believe availability and access to clean water plays a crucial role in achieving a healthy and hygienic menstrual lifestyle;opening of Pad Bank hubs across Nigeria where girls can walk in and get pads and counselling on other menstrual health related concerns; as well as other innovative ideas and approach that would be shared as the mission progresses. We are trying to be as sustainable as possible in achieving these goals. So far, we are happy to say we've consistently reached over 500 girls in Lagos and ogun, and we'll be launching in Kwara soon too.
